We are nurses and nursing students, employed and retired. We are working to achieve universal healthcare. We believe that health care, like f ire protection and clean water is a public good.
There are too many Americans who do not have adequate health insurance, and therefore lack access to affordable care. In 2015, the US Census Bureau reported there are 33 million Americans who lack health insurance, an improvement under the Affordable Care Act, but not where we need to be. This number is expected to persist for decades. And the report does not address the rapidly worsening problem of underinsurance, which is deterring millions of insured from seeking needed care.
We urgently need to move beyond our existing system. The fairest and most efficient way to achieve health care for all is a publicly funded, single payer system, based on the tenet that health care is a public good and not a commodity. We invite you to join us. We support education and outreach activities to spread the word about the movement to achieve universal health care for all.
Health care is a human right. Everybody In, Nobody Out
